| Ohio law protects individuals in a nursing home or residential, long term facility. One example of the law refers to these individuals as having the right to adequate and appropriate medical treatment and nursing care as well as other ancillary services. A nursing home is responsible for injuries proximately caused by the negligence of its employees. Proximate cause means there must be some connection between the negligent act and the harm or damage suffered by the patient. These employees include other staff such as nurses, aides, etc. Some examples of things to look for are pressure sores, falls, assaults (verbal, sexual, physical, and mental abuse, corporal punishment, and involuntary seclusion), dehydration and proper nutrition. |
