Andrew J. Thompson is a litigator concentrating his practice on Federal Employers’ Liability Act (FELA) and other Railroad Law matters, including retaliation claims under the Federal Rail Safety Act (FRSA) and disability appeals before the Railroad Retirement Board. The firm is Designated Legal Counsel for SMART-TD, the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) through its membership in the Academy of Rail Labor Attorneys (ARLA). Andrew has handled railroad cases in state and federal courts in Ohio, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Florida, Tennessee and Illinois.

Andrew also has experience handling union labor matters under both the Railway Labor Act and the National Labor Relations Act. He has negotiated collective bargaining agreements for his clients, handled grievances before a Public Law Board, and argued cases in arbitration.

Andrew was previously a founding Principal in the law firm of Dubyak Connick Sammon Thompson & Bloom, LLC and a partner at Stege & Michelson Co., LPA. Andrew began his career working with Neal Shapero as an associate at Chattman, Gaines & Stern, LPA, where he learned the nuances of railroad law and sharpened his skills as a trial attorney.

After studying journalism at Syracuse University from 1991 to 1993, Andrew transferred to Case Western Reserve University, where he earned a degree in political science. He obtained his law degree from CWRU School of Law in 1999.

Andrew is a member of the Academy of Rail Labor Attorneys, the Cleveland Academy of Trial Attorneys where he was formerly a Director and the co-editor of the CATA News, and the Ohio Association for Justice. Andrew was named an Ohio Super Lawyer for 2015, and an Ohio SuperLawyers Rising Star for 2012 and 2013.

Andrew regularly takes time to attend union meetings and other functions to speak to railroad employees about their legal rights. He has presented information as a part of a panel of attorneys to the CSX General Chairman's Association on FRSA whistleblower claims for the past several years.
